Where I’m writing
I could spend days (maybe even weeks) writing in complete isolation. The whole stereotype of the writer working away in his or her cabin appeals to me – like Johnny Depp in The Secret Window, but without the crazy part. I have never found that being alone equals loneliness.
But, while many writers treasure their solitude, it is imperative that we understand and embrace the world around us. That’s one reason why it is important for writers to read. It’s not just reading for the content and the style of writers who have come before us, but to make our minds work – to give us pause on notions and ideas compiled by others. It’s also important that we have a firm grasp of current events happening in our world.
There are two industries that I have always enjoyed. I am what my family used to call a “news junkie”. And for many years I have been a writer for the arts. So it is my great pleasure to share with you two new venues where you will find my words.
For the last month or so, I have been working with Göteborg Daily providing news reporting every Thursday and Friday. This online news service provides Gothenburg’s headlines, in English, as well as tips and resources for newcomers to Sweden. I encourage you to check Göteborg Daily out. Linda and Ben are fantastic publishers and their stories are smart and relevant.
I have also been working for the social media platform Tondo. Tondo is a gathering place for the arts. This is no run-of-the-mill art forum. The founders are well steeped in the art world – Saul Ingram, previously head of business development in Europe for Sotheby’s, and Sonya Bekkerman, previously the head of its Russian Art department – are ready to welcome you. In addition to the co-founders, Tondo’s crew includes Ayelet Elstein, Chief Revenue Officer, and Emily Kodama, Community Manager – both who come from long and esteemed art careers, and are active on the site.
Tondo recently received a very nice write-up in the Financial Times, Social Media Seeks to Shake Up Art World. (Should you come up against FT’s paywall, follow this link for the complete article.)
Whether you are an art lover, a professional, a photographer, writer, or art collector, Tondo is a venue where like minds can build their own community and embrace discussion on a variety of art related topics. Join us!
